Chinese Diesel Heater info, All in one, some examples, installation and What I bought

Some examples of Chinese All in One Diesel Heaters

First of all these comes in two version.

2kw: 326mm / 12.8"

5kw: 376mm / 14.8"

So the 2 kW is a bit smaller and a replica of Webasto.

The 5 kW is a replica of Ebersprächer.

One problem with these chinese heaters are the sound of the fuel pump.. This is how to get a more silent pump.

"Does not become completely silent, but much quieter. Then as others have said pipe insulation and hang it freely." - Jocke S.

"I changed the pump and the new one is barely audible." - Bengt Åke L.

Also found some video saying it was bearly noticible, the difference that its.

On Aliexpress: High Quality Durable Car Air Diesel Parking Oil Fuel Pump

The fuel pump pictured has it's own fuel filter in it, which is clean-able.
(Nuts can be unscrewed for cleaning)

 Other alternatives

Washing up sponges around it and then put it inside a small bottle.

Or like use a Silent enclosure, this picture is from Max Out Fun. He has swithch to a soft line, instead of the hard one. No more ticking?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP3FOPqtINg

I think He's using this fuel pump:

We all have heard not to install horisontal pump though..

"When the pump is horizontal a big bubble forms on the 'top' of the piston resulting in metal-on-metal wear. This will cause the pump to fail or mis-dose. You want the pump to be filled with diesel, which provides the lubrication. The inner angles of the pump best allow the cavitation bubbles to 'escape' when placed at 15 - 30 degrees. Other than that, this is a brilliant setup!" - stevenh

------------------  ------------------

Intake side of fuel pump ok with softer fuel line

Delivery side (after fuel pipe): only use hard nylon tube

Put the fuel filter and fuel pump as close to the fuel tank as you can

Keep the suction height 500 mm or less and keep the delivery 1m or less.

-----------------  ----------------------

Finding fuel lines that doesnt dry...

SAE J1527 / ISO 7840 approved fuel hoses for boats work well. The hose should preferably have a sticky / oily surface.

Best of all, however, are DIN73379-E3 hoses, Viton hose with Kevlar reinforcement. However, it costs 5 times more than a standard NBR hose

The white nylon harder one also seems good.

4mm fuel hose Inner diameter

White hard nylon 4mm outer diameter

Try to find a hose that is 3.5 mm ID to fit the hard nylon in.

Protection under the car: 6mm innerdiameter vinyl (transparent). Put the hard nylon inside
Or use a garden hose to protect it under the car.

Use stainless steel hose clamps, or use WD40 to lubricate and protect it a little bit from rust.

If you have 4mm hard nylon you have to go smaller with the joining tube, like 3.5mm inner diameter. Put it in hot water to be able to push it in.
Otherwise you might get problem running fuel pump on low hertz, like 1.6 Hz.

--------------   Best way to prime it ------------------

Self priming: Manually pull the diesel so you can see the diesel coming to the fuel pump. Suck it. (To stop uneccesary wear on the piston running without diesel / lubrication.

"It takes about 1 full prime process to travel about a meter so it depends how far from your tank your heater is. The best idea is to take the fuel line off of the bottom of the heater and put it into a clean container. Then prime the line until all the bubbles are out of the line and the fuel is coming out. The re attach the fuel line and press go"

- Van Life Uk

------------------- Black smoke or White smoke ? -----------------------

White smoke is probably indicator that you are too lean, you are not running enough fuel and you have too much air coming in.

Black smoke, flame running to rich, too much fuel, not enough air.

--------------------- Remote control Battery: A27 (12V) ----------------------

"A27 are for the controller without display, it's a 12V battery. But the range on that one are crazy... I can sit outside my house, and start the heater in my basement"

The red remote (with display) uses 2 AAA batteries but has worse range.

---------------- Can you mount it on the side? -----

Yes they are design to run on side.

Just make sure the glow plug is top side.

It's important that the glowplug doesnt see more than 8V. It burns out pretty quickly if it sees more than 8volt for a longer time. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhNXlYpglDE

------------------ This is not all in one but I like it the setup!  -------------

"I used a 6 gallon portable boat tank from bass pro. And a 100ah lithium battery. After this pic I made the box smaller where the actual heater is as u can see in the first pic. Make sure you have a shut off switch to cut all power between heater and battery as they are known for the fan to mysteriously start on own and the display never shuts off killing the battery. This setup should allow the heater to run on low for at least 4 days without any additional power or fuel." - John Bonzey

Air intake
"Running good.  Worked great all last year. Made an air box as you see in the pictures too keep snow/ ice out of intake air. Runs going down the road at 70mph.
Wood doesn't get hot at the exhuast. Been checking it for any charring. Looks good.
Simple basic install.  Used my own metal thin plate to hold exhaust and intake in place.
Trailers a 7.5x20x5'V non insulated but finished walls.  Heats to 70f no issues when it's 15f outside with low wind." - B. Nelson

-------------- This is the version I bought ------------

You either get the "blue digit" LCD, or the "red digit" LCD.

The former cannot be tuned, the latter can. So I got the "red digit" LCD of course.

"You can replace the it to a red digit one" - R. Burn

Result: 2kW all in one diesel heater that supports the Afterburner. I think this is a good choice. I have not recieved it yet though.
I paid 182 USD free shiping from Czech Republic to Sweden.

Using the remote controller: The displays on the remote shows the combustion chamber temp.
Press and count 1 2 3 4 slowly. Any longer and it goes from on to off again.
--------------------  ----------------------

Display getting dimmed? Check out this video how to add quality led.

Screws under the adhesive front, see picture.

A good way to extend the life of the controller is to add an on/off switch on the red power wire so you can cut all power to unit when not in use.

Otherwise get this one:

"It has a long lasting display, sleeps when out of use, and offers a real time burner sensor temp read out. All controllers have a learning curve to suffer through, but this is one of the good ones." - T. Poustie

Green Led display often refered as three button controller.

"The display lasts so well because it is not an LCD, but discrete LEDs directed to the front "screen" via a carefully crafted physical masking system." - R. Jones

------------------ How to make safe turn off if battery running low ---

When the battery gets to 10.7 volt the heater will shut itself OFF as it is meant to. But if you want more marginal and not empty the battery this might be a solution.

Under voltage protection for Diesel Heater
Under voltage protection for Diesel Heater, Very nice solution, all credits goes to Steinar Solli

"I use this relay and set up to prevent draining the battery. The relay has a timer for how how many sec. the voltage can stay low before the relay operate. With the timer it is possible to start a vehicle without the relay shutting down the heater due to low voltage." - Steinar Solli

"This is why i use this relay to only control the diesel pump as shown in the wire diagram. No risk of any damage on the heater. When the voltage drops below set voltage it stops the diesel pump and the heater has controlled stop with cool down sequence. It will give E04 but the fault will disapper next time you press start. If you want to test what happens, just disconnect the diesel pump connector when the heater is running." - Steinar Solli

-------------- Error Codes ----------------

Diesel Heater Error-03 - Glow Plug Failure Or Was It?

You can test your glow plug connecting it to a 12V battery according to this video.

If  not the glow plug it might be the Mosfet K150E09NE.
See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qajr0cYkOnw

The same guy who made the video bought these: FQP30N06 60V N-Channel mosfet.

"Hey i encounter this issue 3 Times, and I did some modifications. I found a bigger heatsink and adjusted a little bit to fit into the board. Since then no problem until now."
- irimie nicolae

"I was not happy having a hole in the bottom of a 10 ltr tank of diesel, I had to cut it down to size to fit the tank."
- T. Hanrahan

"I drilled a hole in the side near the top and fitted it there. The ones that go through the bottom often leak making the tank scrap. However it does mean you can't fill to the top."
